Recently government of Canada announced it will be investing $28 million in recreational fisheries restoration projects all across country over the span on next 3 years. With many environmental challenges that fisheries are facing at the moment the program is directed at restoring, rebuilding and rehabilitating fisheries habitats.

Program is divided into several types and fund different categories of projects starting from Stream & Lake Habitat Restoration to Fish Access Improvements to Stream Channel and Bank Erosion Control and Stabilization, and others. This is a rather limited representation of the program included areas.

Since the program started there have been many success stores. Take for example the McDonald Creek of West Vancouver, BC. This creek is the important habitat to Coho and Chum Salmon. The degrade estuary has eliminate the channel which delayed the fish migration upstream for spawning and subjected the fish to over-predetation in the area. With the program in place the plan was put to improve the passage. Channel was rebuilt completely to withstand ocean fluctuations and storms surges. This is just one example of the stories that showcase the success of the program, but there are many more in Alberta, Ontario and Quebec.
